چکیده

H. D. Toombs and T. E. Hasty have described a technique utilizing ferromagnetic resonance to obtain nondestructive readout in thin permalloy film memories. 1 A study has been made by the authors to determine how this technique could best be utilized in medium and large sized computer memories. The study culminated in the construction of a 32-word, 24-bit film plane tester utilizing absorption resonance readout which served to provide data on the resonant behavior of various films and to lend practical experience in the design of a resonance memory. Resonance absorption may be demonstrated by subjecting a ferromagnetic material sample to a steady magnetic field which (viewed classically) sets up an axis of precession for the electron spins responsible for the materials magnetic moment. If a R.F. field is now applied perpendicular to this axis with a frequency near the natural precession frequency

Nondestructive Readout Scheme for Thin Film Memories

If a magnetic bit in a thin film memory array is driven in the hard direction, the changing flux produces eddy currents in the surrounding conducting surfaces. It has been pointed out by Pohm and others that the eddy field produced by these currents always tends to restore the bit magnetization to its original direction. If this eddy field were strong enough at the end of the word drive pulse, ...

Numerical Investigation of Birefringene Effect on the Light Reflection

In the present paper, the problem of light reflection from a birefringent medium and thin film is considered. First, the analytical equations governing the propagation of a plane and harmonic electromagnetic wave in an infinite, birefringent, linear, non-dispersive, non-absorbing, and non-magnetic medium is derived from Maxwell equations. Then, using phase matching condition and boundary condit...

Dry and Wet Wear Characteristic of TiO2 Thin Film Prepared by Magnetic Sputtering in Ringer Solution

In this research, a thin film of TiO2 was applied on AZ91D using the method of magnetic sputtering. Microstructure investigations were done using field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Wear resistance for the coating was investigated using the pin on the disk in the form of dry and in the Ringer's solution. After this test, the worn surface of the sampl...

A New Technique for Using Thin Magnetic

The use of thin magnetic film memories for high speed computers has been well established. More recently, efforts have been made to adapt thin-film memory elements for operation in a phase script mode by using drive fields at two different frequencies to switch and read the state of the memory element. The resulting memory system is uniquely suited for operation in a parametron computer where i...

Nondestructive microwave permittivity characterization of ferroelectric thin film using microstrip dual resonator

This article presents the use of a microstrip dual resonator for nondestructive permittivity characterization of a ferroelectric thin film at microwave frequencies. The dual-resonator measurement fixture consists mainly of two capacitively coupled microstrip resonators, with the ferroelectric thin film covering the gap between the two resonators. The dielectric constant and loss tangent of the ...
